MOVIE CRITIQUE: Holidate

The Movie titled "Holidate" released this year 2020, directed by Mr. John Whitesell. They claim that if you like lifetime holiday movies full of toxic-yet-beautiful characters that fall in love by the time the credits roll therefore, this move is you. The story revolves in the idea of this: "Fed up with being single on holidays, two strangers agree to be each other's platonic plus-ones all year long, only to catch real feelings along the way." (Netflix, 2020) The movie released this year 2020, the year when COVID-19 arise. Meaning the essence of holidate cannot push thru in the real setting of life that the world having now. Since, those holidays are not meant for celebrating with humongous people given the situation that we have. I conclude that this movie is not perfectly released when it comes to the time that they pushed through. However, that does not mean that this movie does not make any sense. The plot can give ideas that can still be used for future purposes.

The movie used Third Person point of view as to express the whole movie but it is only limited. In addition to that, the platform that they used is really into nowadays, and that is Netflix. The characters have their own characteristics. Sloane at first was a woman who does not care of having or not having a man. Meanwhile on the other hand her family was happily together with their partners except for her Aunt Susan who has been doing holidate for how so long. Then here goes Jackson whom she met at a mall and then they basically agreed to become each other's holidate. They stayed being together for holidays up until a year where they found themselves falling to each other. They came up to the point where Jackson got upset since Sloane denied her feelings for her. And at Christmas where they met in the first time is where they get their feelings summed up and decided to be together.Holidate is the term used to express the short term of Holiday and Date. Where the meaning itself is a date during holidays. In the movie, Sloane and Jackson found themselves being in each other company during holidays. That is the period where the movie starts and it is the turning point that leads to the ending. Holidate symbolize them being coward but also it is the way where they lead to each other arms. At first holidate is made just to bring someone to accompany someone on a special occasion, which is the holiday. However, what they did not realize that they are doing the holidate because they are afraid of commitment or they are scared to be left alone once everything is over. At the end they did not let their feelings stuck upon them and they let it out so they became officially together and not only for exclusive holidays.

The Third Person point of view technique or style worked in a sense the audience will have this audacity to really think before digesting what is happening. It was released as a movie not a series that is the best when the plot itself can be expressed in just one sitting. Moreover, not on doing many episodes that will eventually be the down portion since if they did it in a series moreover the audience won't spend that much time and the flow will be bland to continue that is why once again a very nice move to make it movie. Why limited view only? Limited in the means that the audience will know what the character is feeling or even doing because the characters say it by the usage of words. Using Netflix as a platform is a great idea. Therefore, the audience is broad and at the same time, people are limited to go out so their choice is to watch at home and this movie can be watched at home. The convenience and accessibility of the platform used is good. The characters characteristics can still be easy to know since, some of the scenes really speak for what is intended to do next. The characters image or the cast itself gave justice to their characters so that is why a good point for it. The symbol which is the holidate itself introduced and execute itself on the process but in the ending it is little misleading. Since, the statement of Sloane is not clear about the holidate things to end and start new serious beginnings to Jackson. If the audience will not really pay attention to every detail then they might get the wrong idea of the movie. They should really focused their story based on the plot since like I have mention in the end the movie did not put a big impact to the audience.
